The Wilmington March for Life will be held on Friday January, 20th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, beginning at Rodney Square in Wilmington. Delaware Right to Life will provide signs for the event. We ask that participants maintain a peaceful presence during the march. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Janet Grayson.

The March for Life in Washington, D.C. is fast approaching and Delaware Right to Life has reserved a bus for the event! The march will be held on Monday, January 23rd, 2012. We will be departing from the Christiana Mall Bus Depot at 10:00 am that morning, and returning by 8:00pm. The cost is $25 per person, $50 per family and $10 per student. Lila Rose to speak at St. Thomas More Academy

St. Thomas More Academy in Magnolia, Del. will be hosting a Pro-Life guest speaker on Thursday evening, January 26. The speaker, Lila Rose, is the founder of LiveAction and has received national attention for her eye-opening investigations into Planned Parenthood clinics across the country.

The schedule time for the speaking engagement is 7pm on Thursday, January 26, 2012. St. Thomas More Academy is asking for a donation of $10 for each person attending that evening. Light snacks and refreshments will be available. More details will follow.

This is part of the school’s commitment to the Pro-Life cause and is being held during the week of the March for Life (which is scheduled for Jan. 23). St. Thomas More Academy is located on 133 Thomas More Drive in Magnolia, Delaware.

Can you hear them?

I can’t get them out of my head.

I cannot escape those silent wails of the unknown who plead for deliverance.

I cannot escape the jabbering souls of those who are deaf to the cruelty which they inflict.

What joyfulness is left for those yet to come?

When the sun brings forth the warmth we desire, it comes out as a winter’s wind, consuming the hearts of all it passes.

Yet none can feel the chill on their hands, even those hands that carry with them destruction and grief.

Cries are lost to the unending shadows, and we walk forward still…as THEY bathe in empty basins and sing silent songs of longing…longing for life in the sunshine of summer.

But summertime NEVER comes and OH… what earth we stand on; decrepit and brown.

Mouths whisper words of comfort with poisoned breath, the heavens look down with shame on the advanced race of evil we have become.

Because in the sight of the brightest star, this is the blackest hole, ripping all life in our grasp to shreds and corrupting all good to the crushed sense of despair we constantly renew.

AND…my dear, hopeful future may I say you are looking pale.

A strange sadness twists your expression, what haunts your taunted gaze; could it be the ground that quakes beneath our feet, but NO, it’s sorrow for the lost, the gone, the murdered that held your hand so tight.

The most innocent smiles have faded from view and I can hear them leaving; leaving in powerful gusts to sit on heaven’s knee and weep for the home they had naught to create, because the CHOICE WAS A LIFE THAT NEVER COULD BLOOM.

And in my ears rings the music of what laughter could have been.

CAN YOU HEAR THEM, BECAUSE I CANNOT GET THEM OUT OF MY HEAD!

Dear Friends,

Praying and vigiling at Planned Parenthood goes on throughout the year, and are particularly appropriate at Advent, when we prepare our hearts for the coming of the Lord.

Friday is surgical abortion day at 625 Shipley St. in Wilmington. Each Friday, from 8:30-11:00 am or so, we gather to pray and to hand out information about alternatives to abortion. Come and join us, if you are looking for a way to deepen your experience of discipleship.

We have discovered that the sidewalk outside Planned Parenthood is like the agora where St. Paul and the other apostles met with the people of the Roman Empire and the Greek city-states to tell them the good news of Jesus Christ. Every Friday, we encounter men, women and children from the Wilmington community and enter into the most unexpected conversations.

When we first started praying outside of Planned Parenthood, we thought it was all about the abortions. We have come to discover that God makes all sorts of opportunities for us to become involved in the life of the city.

The last couple of Fridays have been very light in terms of women going into PP. Praise God for that! I like to think, and I hope and pray it is true, that our faithful prayer for the mothers and their unborn children is making a difference. I like to think that our prayers are helping widen the doors, the windows, and the cracks in people's hearts and minds that will allow the Holy Spirit to come in and make a transformative difference in a crisis pregnancy situation. Please continue to pray with us at home.

Last week a young man walked by as we were praying the rosary. He looked at us, looked at the sign that said "Re-think Abortion", and asked, "What are you all doing out here praying?"

We told him we were praying for an end to abortion. He said, "Yeah, I hear you! That's a good prayer!"

He asked, "Are you all from the same church?"

We said we were all Catholics, but we came from different parishes. He said he was new to Wilmington and was looking for a church. We told him that some of us were going to St. Peter's Cathedral at 11:00 for a holy hour, followed by Mass, and asked him if he'd like to join us. He said he wasn't sure he could make it, but could we maybe pray for him right then and there?

So we gathered in a circle, asked his name (John), and prayed for John. We asked that the Holy Spirit would help him find a church, that the Lord would bless his life in this new city, and give him the graces necessary for his life at this time and place.

Then we all hugged John, and he walked away praising God.

The Planned Parenthood escorts and the Wilmington police officer hired by PP for security looked on. I hope and pray that when they observe us engaged in ways that don't automatically trigger their animosity (as our engagement with their clients do), they may recognize that we are just ordinary people. Weird, perhaps they will think, for praying in public, but we hope they see that we are sincere and unaffected. Too many people never see ordinary Christians in ordinary acts of ministry to one another.

I love our Friday time spent in the agora of Wilmington. We'll be there tomorrow. Hope to see some new or familiar faces.

Every October, the nation turns pink. Friends and neighbors wear pink ribbons, NFL players wear pink shoes. Even the White House reflects pink flood lights onto its exterior in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We in the Catholic community also know October as Respect Life Month. It seems these two life-saving efforts should go hand-in-hand right? Not so fast.

In general, the color pink raises awareness for breast cancer – a worthy cause. But the biggest beneficiary of pink-related events is Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the nation’s largest breast cancer charity. Some of you might even support Komen in your charitable giving. And why not? Breast cancer is a tragic disease that far too many women battle every year in the U.S. It’s a worthy cause to support. Unfortunately, just not through Komen.

Why “unfortunately?” Komen financially supports the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood (PP). How can that be? Why would a life-affirming organization like Komen financially support a death-peddling organization like PP? Komen refutes the claim that they directly support abortion, but let me give you the details.

According to the Bioethics Defense Fund (bdfund.org) Komen has a policy of explicitly allowing its state affiliates to give monetary grants to abortion providing facilities. Not all state affiliates give grants to PP using the 75% of the funds that they raise in a state. However, each state affiliate must forward at least 25% of funds raised in their state to the Komen National office. These funds are under the discretion of a board that refuses to disassociate itself from PP, thus the money goes into a pool to be potentially distributed to PP.

Komen gave over $3 million to PP between 2003 and 2008 (though the amount is insignificant). So why does Komen give funds to an abortion giant? They claim they give the money as grants for breast exams. There are two problems with this claim. Number 1: It doesn’t matter what you give money to PP for. The dollars are fungible and it just frees up money for them to use on abortions and other operating costs to keep their doors open. Number 2: PP is a level 1 breast center. It is only allowed to perform manual exams. Despite its implications - it DOES NOT PROVIDE MAMMOGRAMS!

Desperate following the House of Representatives’ recent vote to defund the organization, PP CEO Cecile Richards used the claim that the organization should continue to receive federal funding based on their breast health services. “If this bill ever becomes law, millions of women in this country are going to lose their health care access, not to abortion services, to basic family planning – you know, mammograms, cancer screenings, cervical cancer,” she said.

But the truth is that PP does NOT provide breast exams. They simply provide referrals for breast exams – the same type of referral you can get from you primary care doctor, urgent care center, free clinic or GYN.

Pro-life blogger Jill Stanek did some research and found that not a single PP in America performs mammograms. PP’s own website says, “Ask your local health care provider, health department, or staff at your local Planned Parenthood center about where you can get a mammogram in your area.” [emphasis mine]

Aside from the fact that PP does not provide mammograms, Komen continues to ignore the ominous fact that abortion is the #1 avoidable cause of the very disease they’re fighting. It doesn’t make sense that they’re financially abetting an organization that contributes to the tragic rise in breast cancer.

From the Abortion/Breast Cancer Coalition (abortionbreastcancer.com):

“The breasts grow considerably during pregnancy while under the influence of high levels of the hormone estrogen, a known carcinogen. Estrogen causes the woman's normal and cancer-vulnerable breast lobules to multiply. If she has an abortion, she's left with more places for cancers to start in her breasts. If she has a baby, then other pregnancy hormones mature her breast lobules into cancer-resistant lobules during the last months of pregnancy. She's left with more cancer-resistant tissue than she had before she became pregnant.”

It’s heartbreaking that an otherwise very worthy organization could negate all of the good work that they do by funding an organization that exterminates 332,278 unborn children per year. And this is a fact that, as Christians, we cannot ignore. We cannot overlook the evil that is perpetuated through this partnership by using the false justification that we’re doing a “greater good” by funding breast cancer research. In this situation, there is no greater good. The ends do not justify the means. The murder of over 300,000 innocents does not justify a few mammogram referrals.

Fortunately there are alternative organizations that do beneficial work for the same cause through morally acceptable means. If you’re currently a Komen supporter and would like to divert your funds to an ethical breast cancer research organization, please consider the National Breast Cancer Foundation (nationalbreastcancer.org) and the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute (bcpinstitute.org).

Also, please keep in mind that Susan G. Komen for the Cure is far from the only disease-research organization that funds morally objectionable groups. Many well-known disease advocate groups support Planned Parenthood as well as embryonic stem cell research. Just to name a few: The American Cancer Society (including Relay for Life), Alzheimer’s Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association and American Lung Association. The Fall 40 Days for Life Vigil for fall is in full swing -- Monday is Day 6. This time, the Wilmington 40 Days team is concentrating not so much in our own ability to fill the schedule for forty days, but relying rather on the Holy Spirit to recruit as we dedicate our time to prayer and vigiling. We are seeing the fruits already. Friday at 1:00pm as we got ready to leave Planned Parenthood for the day, we had only two people signed up for the following day. But Saturday, 21 people showed up to pray and vigil in witness to the value of unborn human life!

We made a long line at the edge of the sidewalk, and prayed and sang from booklets assembled by Pat Radell just 24 hours before the vigil began. The booklets help focus our attention on prayer, song, and the peaceful, prayerful presence that we want to bring to our efforts for the unborn babies and their mothers.

We saw tears on Saturday. A woman and her 14-year-old daughter came out of Planned Parenthood looking distraught. The woman was in tears. I approached her as gently as possible and asked if I could help. She said that her daughter was five months pregnant and that Planned Parenthood couldn't do anything to "get rid of it." They had given her a referral number, but she was hoping that this could all be settled today.

I spent about 20 minutes with them, offering encouragement and help for the young lady to carry her baby to term. I won't try to describe the conversation - it was heartbreaking all around. They are Christians, who attend church, but didn't think their pastor could help. We prayed together, asking the Lord's grace and help. I felt a growing sense of helplessness as the older woman kept repeating, "She's only 14. I don't want her to ruin her life." Adoption was not an option, she said, -- "I don't want people looking down on her."

I am writing this from the Elsmere Library, in route from Wilmington to my physical therapy appointment, and wanting to get this message out before I get back to my own computer at home.

Lawanda is the name of the woman whose 14-year old daughter is 5 months pregnant. We were at prayer this morning in front of Planned Parenthood when to our surprise, Lawanda returned, but looking for us! She hoped she would find us there, and asked if I had the information about adoption that I had talked about!

I offered to take her on the spot to A Door of Hope, but she had errands to run and her daughter was not with her. I confess that I was rattled, and perhaps the Enemy was clouding my mind a bit, because I couldn't find any of the excellent information that I carry with me, and Lawanda's gentleman driver seemed impatient. I told her how very glad I was to see her. I said she had been very much on my heart all weekend and that I had been praying for her and her daughter. Her eyes filled with tears and she seemed genuinely touched, and thanked me. I gave her two brochures, neither of which was my "prime" material, but both of which had phone numbers that could help. I gave her my card, and urged her to call the numbers on the brochures, and to call me if she had any difficulty finding the help she needed.

Please offer prayers for Lawanda, her daughter, and the child that is five months in the womb and growing every minute as her mom, grandmom and family discern what to do. All of us 40 Days vigilers prayed, right there on the sidewalk, agreeing to ask the Father in Jesus' name for the life of that child, that He send grace and hope to the child's grandmother, and the child's mother -- who is only in middle school! -- to find the courage to give the beautiful gift of life to that growing child.

Miss Delaware to Speak at Delaware Right to Life Annual Banquet on Tuesday, October 11^th.

Maria Cahill is not your typical Miss Delaware. Underneath the glittery dresses, and beautiful smile is a girl who is down-to- earth, motivated and hard core. Maria is determined to refine the “pageant girl image” by proving that your favorite meal can be a Big Mac from McDonald’s (don’t forget the large fry!), and you don’t have to think twice before playing video games with your brothers . She could care less if she broke a nail; but most importantly she could care less what people think of the principles she stands for and the causes she is passionate about. Where is the golden rule that if you are a young, beautiful, confident woman in the spotlight you must either conceal your conservative values or pump your fist high for “women’s rights”. Well, it’s her body, her choice, and she has chosen to stand for life.

Maria Cahill who is the second oldest of seven kids, has always been passionate about the pro-life movement. “It came from growing up in a household where the value of life was respected no matter what the case. I became even more involved when I met women that were contemplating abortion. Seeing the pain in their eyes and hearing them talk about the fact that they believed that there was no other way out was heart wrenching; and honestly made me want to make a difference”.

Standing firm amidst today’s opposition is not an easy task, though. Shocking right? No, but one would hope that in a society that promotes the “liberation of women”, a young woman would be free to speak her mind on one of the biggest controversies that has enveloped her generation. “Thinking of the lives that will be lost, and how these children have not had the opportunity to make a name for themselves”, only compels her even more to be a voice for voiceless, when so many are trying to shut her up. “One of my mottos is, “it is better to be hated for who you are than to be loved for who you are not””. In turn, she hopes to use her crown “to draw attention to the things that [she] is passionate about” and inspire others who may be holding back from getting involved in the pro-life movement. “Stick up for what you believe in, no matter what the case.”

Maria is proud to be a voice for a movement that she has stood for all her life, and honored that the Miss Delaware organization would give her the opportunity to publically share her beliefs. “I have heard that because I am in the public eye, I have no right to speak about the pro-life movement. I feel the total opposite. There is a crown on my head for a reason. I am trying to save innocent lives and if it takes a crown for people to maybe consider this issue a little further, then my mission has been accomplished.”

Groundbreaking study confirms link between abortion and mental health problems.

Planned Parenthood and abortion providers deny and ignore what abortion does to a woman's heart and mind. They spend millions of tax payer dollars each year to promote abortion as good and even necessary for women. As a result, women suffer and do not receive any post abortion services whatsoever. If Planned Parenthood were really about the health of women, don't you think they would be interested in helping those who suffer after an abortion? No, because recognizing what abortion is and what it does to a woman emotionally and offering post abortion help would completely discredit Planned Parenthood's position. Is it any wonder why abortion advocates have denied and ignored this pain, since the very beginning?

Well, that's all about to change. A study published on Thursday by Great Britain's prestigious Royal College of Psychiatrists concludes that women who have had an abortion have an 81% greater chance of subsequent mental health problems. The groundbreaking study combines the results of 20 studies conducted over 14 years in six countries involving 877,181 women. The dramatic results confirm that post abortive women are:

37% more likely to suffer depression,
110% more likely to engage in higher alcohol use, and
155% more likely to engage in suicidal behavior

Rehobeth Planned Parenthood CLOSED

The Rehoboth Beach office of Planned Parenthood in the Mid-way Shopping Center closed abruptly Sept. 1.

Emily Knearl, vice president of public affairs for Planned Parent-hood of Delaware, said the center closed because it was not serving enough patients.

She said Planned Parenthood has informed patients it would close and provided a list of providers patients can now go to.

The Rehoboth facility provid-ed birth control services, emer-gency contraception, HIV test-ing, pregnancy and STD testing and hepatitis vaccines, among other services. Abortion services were not provided.

Carrie Keane, a midwife with Bayside Health Association who also worked part- time at the Re-hoboth Planned Parenthood fa-cility, said the facility faced finan-cial problems. The Rehoboth fa-cility did not have a clinician on staff. She said patient records arebeing transferred to the Dover and Newark off ices. All patients at the Rehoboth facility can go to either of those two offices to continue care.

Keane said Planned Parent-hood was looking at possibly finding another location in Sus-sex County, one with lower rent that was already suitable as a clinic so that the organization would continue to have a pres-ence here.

Knearl said, ' Planned Parent-hood is saddened by the closure and hopes to offer sexual and re-productive health services again in Sussex County. In the interim, Planned Parenthood will contin-ue to serve Sussex County with a variety of education classes and community outreach.”

I guess it's hard to recognize sometimes how much progress the pro-life movement is actually making (especially hard to realize from the state of Delaware!) but we truly are making a difference!

Blown Off the Hinges

I used to be pro-choice. I rolled my eyes with fierce contempt whenever the very active pro-life ministry at my college would have a table in the dining hall, or posters in my dorm. In fact, so adamant were my pro-choice views that I tried to start a Planned Parenthood “resource center” at a college on the Cardinal Newman list You can imagine how successful I was with that endeavor.

When I arrived at “The Mount” as a freshman, I was deeply interested in politics, veering left with rapid speed on every possible topic, including abortion. I read Ms. magazine with a passion and obviously I, in conjunction with the feminist movement, knew more than the collective wisdom of the holy Spirit and 2,000 years of unbroken teaching on the sanctity of life. It was easy to ignore those who upheld the Church’s teaching, and when necessary treat them with disdain until they left me alone. So imagine my surprise when I went from having a “Stop the War on Choice” poster hanging in my dorm room to praying in front of Planned Parenthood for an end to abortion as part of 40 Days for Life, all in the span of six years.

“How did it happen?”, you might be wondering. I often wonder that myself, and while I can trace points on the path, there was no magic moment, no immediate transformation. I suppose the nail in the coffin of my pro-choice views was when I attended the March for Life in 2006 as a “casual observer” and heard story after story of women whose lives were tragically altered by their choice to abort. The witness of the Silent No More campaign made me realize once and for all that killing someone can never be a social panacea or the solution to anyone’s problems. Violence only begets more violence and despair, as Blessed Teresa of Calcutta famously said, “But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child…And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?…Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.”

However before that, there were a lot of things which came together and caused me to re-think my views on “choice”. While studying my required theology courses, I felt drawn more to the Church and her teachings, and it became more difficult to simply ignore those who were pro-life; they were my classmates and started becoming my friends. They wanted to know why I thought there was a “war on women”, and why I thought women had to have “abortion rights” to be free. They challenged me to really study the teachings, and to do so with an open mind. Mostly, they prayed for me. It was the prayers of many a pro-life friend that helped me have the humility to consider being open to the Church’s teaching.

As God is famous for doing, I opened the door an 1/8 of an inch; He blew it off the hinges. I forced myself to read through the Catechism and Evangelium Vitae. All the while, I prayed that if I was missing something, I would see it. There was so very much to see. I prayed for a well-formed conscience. That prayer softened my heart. After much soul searching and many hours spent in prayer and reflection, I saw the beautiful truth of these words:
“As far as the right to life is concerned, every innocent human being is absolutely equal to all others. This equality is the basis of all authentic social relationships which, to be truly such, can only be founded on truth and justice, recognizing and protecting every man and woman as a person and not as an object to be used.” (EV, 57)

This is the kind of statement that either is true, or is not true. It finally became that clear to me. It was the beginning of a fundamental shift in my attitude about the purpose of the human person, and the primacy of the social teaching of the Church as the thing that forms and guides my beliefs, choices, and attitudes.

We all struggle with Church teaching at some point. At least one aspect of Catholicism will stump, challenge, or make us uncomfortable during our journey. Part of growing in faith is to engage those questions and challenges. The primacy of conscience must be respected, yes, but too little attention is paid to how to create a conscience worth following. It is through prayer, reception of the Sacraments, and reading of Scripture and Catechism.

What I learned in my journey from pro-choice advocate to passionately pro-life is that the attitude with which we approach our questions and doubts will affect whether or not we are truly open to the Spirit. Once I approached the teachings on abortion and sexuality with the humility to admit that it was possible I could be wrong, andactively sought the direction of the holy Spirit, the rest, as they say, was history.

Pro-lifers.. We Are Apostles

Below are the words that Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko preached from a previous talk of Cardinal Wyszynski:

“The greatest shortcoming of an apostle is fear, because it inspires doubt in the power of the Master, cramps the heart, and strangles the voice. The apostle no longer professes. Is he still an apostle? The disciple who abandons the Master no longer professes his faith in Him. They encourage the executioners. Anyone who remains silent before his enemies emboldens them. An apostle’s fear is the primary ally of an enemy’s cause. In a strategy towards godlessness, the terror that is practiced by all dictatorships draws its effectiveness from the timidity of the apostles. The first goal is to force one into silence through fear. Silence has its apostolic significance only when I do not shrink from my oppressors. This is what the silent Christ did, and by this sign He revealed His courage. Christ did not allow himself to be terrorized. When He went forth to meet the rabble, He said openly, “It is I.”

“To liberate man so that he can aim for the truth and live by it, it is necessary to acquire the virtue of valor. The proof of Christian valor lies in readiness to fight for the truth. The virtue of valor is nothing else but the shedding of human weakness, especially fear and apprehension. We must be afraid of only one thing in our life-betraying Jesus for the few silver coins of barren quietude. It is not enough for a Christian to condemn evil, cowardice, lies, and use of force, hatred, and oppression. He must at all times be a witness to and defender of justice, goodness, truth, freedom, and love. He must never tire of claiming these values as a right both for himself and others.”

A Planned Parenthood abortion-referrals facility has closed in Sherman, Texas — near Dallas — as a direct result of the bill Governor Rick Perry signed that the Texas legislature approved revoking taxpayer funding for the abortion business.

The center closed on Tuesday, four months after former manager Ramona Trevino resigned her post at Planned Parenthood. Trevino is now speaking out about her pro-life conversion and resulting exodus from the organization responsible for the most abortions in the United States.

According to the pro-life group 40 Days for Life, which publicized the closing and which helped Abby Johnson leave a Bryan, Texas Planned Parenthood center, Trevino explains that, although this particular Planned Parenthood did not perform surgical abortions, she was struggling “with [her] conscience . . . on contraception, abortion and [her] role in it all.” All Planned Parenthood centers make abortion referrals and some of them dispense the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug that has killed dozens of women and injured another 2,200 in the United States alone.

Beginning last March, Texoma Pro-Life Association sponsored a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil for the first time outside the Sherman Planned Parenthood that is credited with helping Trevino change her mind on abortion.

On August 28, there will be a rally at the public right-of-way in front of the former Sherman Planned Parenthood (2114 Texoma Pkwy) from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. to commemorate the closing of the facility. David Bereit, National Director and co-founder of 40 Days for Life, will be a guest speaker at the rally, as will Trevino. Trevino will share her journey from believing she was providing a service to women in need to realizing that Planned Parenthood “treated women like cattle and how they only cared about making money” – a realization she says was “long overdue.”

“We want to bring pro-life members of the Sherman community together to reflect upon the blessings received during our 40 Days for Life campaign . . . to rejoice in the victories that God has accomplished,” said Gerry Brundage, spokesperson for the Sherman 40 Days for Life campaign.

In addition to her Sherman appearance, Trevino will also be the keynote speaker at the 40 Days for Life-Dallas Kickoff Rally on September 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Harry S. Moss Park, 8000 Greenville Avenue in Dallas. Beginning at midnight, Dallas will join over 300 cities worldwide in the Fall 40 Days for Life campaign through November 6, including a 24/7 peaceful, prayer vigil outside the Southwestern late-term abortion center (at Greenville and Royal in Dallas).

The facility closed in the wake of $58 million dollars of funding cuts in Texas, which prompted the closure of a cluster of Planned Parenthood facilities. Other Texas Planned Parenthood facilities on the chopping block include Gainesville, Plano, Waxahachie, Mesquite, Arlington North, and Terrell.

The Texoma Pro-Life Association also commented on the closing: “After 7 years of prayer, petitions, and hard work, the Planned Parenthood facility in Sherman, TX, is shutting its doors. We ask for prayers for the former employees of the Sherman Planned Parenthood facility and we give all the glory and praise to God for this amazing accomplishment.”

Earlier this week, pro-life advocates were given the good news that an abortion center shut down in Pensacola, Florida.

The closing follows news last week that Planned Parenthood would no longer do abortions at some Arizona locations because it declined to follow new pro-life laws enacted in that state.

Meanwhile, a California-based abortion business closed in July after 40 Days for Life pro-life prayer events there.

Earlier this year, Family Planning Associates, one of the largest abortion center chains in California,closed the abortion business it runs in Newport Beach. Operation Rescue president Troy Newman informed LifeNews about the closing of the FPA abortion facility and he said the Newport Beach location is one “where pro-lifers have been sidewalk counseling and praying for decades” and “its closure is an encouragement that we are winning.”

With FPA closing up shop in Newport Beach, it joins the closing of all five Golden Gate Community Health locations in the San Francisco area. Formerly known as Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, the GGCH abortion centers closed after financial problems and mismanagement forced national Planned Parenthood officials to disaffiliate the local affiliate.

Also earlier this year, two Pennsylvania abortion clinics operated by abortionist Soleiman M. Soliwere closed by state officials in the wake of the discovery of Kermit Gosnell’s “house of horrors” where he killed a woman in a botched abortion and killed hundreds of babies in birth-induced abortions that are essentially infanticides. Soli closed the clinics and retired rather than clean them up.

The closings follow the permanent closure of a Planned Parenthood abortion referral center in Ohio. Planned Parenthood of Northeast Ohio will be closing one of its centers north of Columbus, in Galion, because it says it is has come up on financial difficulties that make it necessary to consolidate.

Thursday, August 25, 2011 --Delaware Right to Life staunchly condemns the comments made by Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday, August 20^th.The statement that resulted in national media attention was one that was made during an appearance at Sichuan University in Chengdu; in which Biden stated, “Your policy has been one which I fully understand -- I’m not second-guessing -- of one child per family.”

The media and the White House may attempt to smooth over the uneasiness of the American people which was brought on by Joe Biden’s unreserved support of China’s one child policy, but we at Delaware Right to Life know of the only way that peace and security will be reinstated in the hearts of the American people once again. We must return to the principles that the United States of America was founded on- Liberty and Justice for ALL. The prosperity of this great nation comes from the intelligence, strength and courage of its people, those who live now and those who are yet to be born. We hope that Vice President Joe Biden will soon be able to “fully understand”, without “second guessing,” the potential that lives in each human being, born and unborn.

Stories from the Sidewalk

I have seen a lot of tears recently on the sidewalk outside of Planned Parenthood. Two weeks ago Friday,

a young woman was on the cell phone talking when she burst into tears and started yelling at the person on the other end. She hung up, and stood there with tears rolling down her face. I approached and as gently as I could said, "I can't help noticing you are in distress. Can I help?"

She said, "He said he was going to meet me here. Now he says he's not coming."

I said, "Are you talking about your boyfriend?"

She said, "He's not my boyfriend. We just hooked up. But yesterday he said he'd show up here with the money for the abortion, and today he says he's not going to give it to me."

We talked about why she thought abortion was the only choice, and whether her parents knew she was pregnant. She had just graduated from Christiana High School. She said her mother would kill her if she knew, but her grandmother might understand. I suggested she call her grandmom. I offered to take her out to breakfast or to a place where professional counselors would talk to her at no cost. She said she had texted a girlfriend. Sure enough, in a few minutes a car full of young women pulled up, she got in the car and drove away. I was too timid to speak to the young women in the car also.

Pray for her,and for all those who are in distress when they come to Planned Parenthood. Pray that the Lord opens their hearts to find another way. Pray for those who come out of the clinic, after the deed is done. Pray that the Lord give them the graces they need to find understanding of what they have done, repentance, comfort, and peace. It might sound more kind for them to never recognize what they have done, but only the Lord can bring healing and peace to the chaos sin brings into our lives, however culpable we are.

Join us if you can at 625 Shipley St. in Wilmington this morning from 9-11, outside of Planned Parenthood. You don't have to talk. Prayer is the core need. Public prayer and witness to the value of the lives that are at risk and that are ended inside.

Planned Parenthood has conned the public so well with their bright pink signs and empowering talking points; hoping that their passion for reproductive rights will outweigh the damage they have procured. They want the people to believe that they truly care about women’s health, not the revenue; and that they work to reduce abortions within the community. “ Planned Parenthood believes that the best way to make abortion rare is to make sure women, families and teens have access to confidential and affordable health care services”( http://www.plannedparent hood.org/rocky-mountains/planned-parenthood-parental-notification-10565.htm). This is contrary to what, Amy Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director in Texas witnessed. Assisting with an ultrasound guided abortion one day at her clinic, Amy watched in horror as the body of a thirteen week old baby was sucked from a woman’s womb; fighting for its life. That moment ended her eight year employment with Planned Parenthood. Having dodged attacks and a lawsuit from the company that once named her the affiliate’s Employee of the Year, she reveals the lies she once believed. “Abortion was where my priorities needed to be because that was where the revenue was. This meant that my job as the clinic director was to find a way to increase the number of abortions at my clinic.”(Johnson & Lambert, 2010) In Planned Parenthood’s Annual Reports ( 2005-2008,) and Fact Sheet for 2008 (2010) the insight from Abby is mirrored in their abortion numbers; which have steadily increased through the years. In 2004 there were 255,015 abortion procedures performed; 264,943 in 2005[1]; 289,750 in 2006; 305,310 in 2007[2]; and 324,008 in 2008[3]”.

Those who have stood behind Planned Parenthood have been hypnotized by the chants of “my body, my choice”. As a result, they have silenced the voices of those who have been victimized through the desensitization of integrity. In a country called “the land of the brave”, why are its leaders cowardly numb to the basic threats against liberty? It is true that these threats may not manifest into the kind of terrorism that brings down buildings; but they are the kinds that terrorize the fundamental rights of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”. There are far worthier, honest organizations that deserve the millions in taxpayer money that Planned Parenthood currently receives. The masquerade has finally begun to fall, and it is now up to the people of the United States of America to ensure that the values the country was once founded, reign again over its citizens.

There were individuals who wanted to carry out the very same genocide of World War II in the United States, but through a different manner. T. Lothrop Stoddard was one of the Board of Director’s on The American Birth Control League and a writer for Sanger’s Birth Control Review. His book, The Rising Tide of Color Against White World Supremacy quotes him saying, “Non-white races must be excluded from America… the red and black races if left to themselves revert to a savage or semi-savage state in a short time (Stoddard).” It should come as no surprise that this man’s callous disdain for blacks caught the attention of Adolf Hitler; whom he once secured a private meeting with. Stoddard’s ideals were even published in Nazi school text books.

Another man on Margaret’s list of allies was a professor by the name of Dr. Eugen Fischer, who believed that “blacks are an inferior race of savages who should only be allowed to survive as long as they are of use to the Arian race (Maafa 21).”. His essay, “Eugenic Sterilization: An Urgent Need”, was published in the Birth Control Review in 1933. Fischer was eventually hired by Hitler and was a part of committees that saw to the sterilization of blacks in countries that came under Nazi control (Maafa 21).

Those dark days are over and done with, right? We have moved past racial corruption and embraced a new world where all are equal, regardless of the color of their skin. It’s sorry to say, but the oppressive weight of discrimination is alive and well in Planned Parenthood to this day. Within the past couple years a student run organization called Live Action has gone into Planned Parenthood clinics across the nation, exposing that Sanger’s ideals from over 90 years ago are rampant in the organization. In one of their many undercover videos, (2010) an actor poses as a potential donor and calls a Planned Parenthood clinic in Columbus, Ohio. Within the first 40 seconds of the conversation the actor asks Lisa, the clinic’s administrative assistant, “When I underwrite an abortion, does that apply to minorities too?” to which she responds “If you specifically want it to underwrite an abortion for a minority person, you can target it that way. You can specify that’s’ how you want it spent... for whatever reason we’ll accept the money (http://liveaction.org/)”. Two other videos from this project followed in the same manor. In total, 4 out of the 7 clinics that were called endorsed the racist donation.( http://liveaction.org/). It doesn’t end there. Planned Parenthood’s lack of human respect extends far beyond the war on this country’s African-American brothers and sisters. This past January, Live Action released Planned Parenthood‘s most horrific truths to date; which, simply put, reveals them breaking the law.

On January 13^th of 2011, two actors from Live Action impersonating as a pimp and his prostitute, entered Planned Parenthood of Perth Amboy, New Jersey. What followed was a deplorable attack on innocence, liberty and the law by a Planned Parenthood employee, which sent shock waves through the nation. The “pimp” relates to clinic manager, Amy Woodruff, that some of his sex slaves “are young… like fifteen, fourteen… and some don’t even speak any English.( http://liveaction.org/)” From there the manager goes on to inform the pimp how to get the girls to lie about their own ages and the age of their partner, on paperwork when they return to receive services from the clinic.( http://liveaction.org/) According to the U.S. Code 2 and 1591, “Sex trafficking of minors is a federal crime and punishable by imprisonment for 10 years to life”, and “Any person who aids, abets or counsels a federal crime to be committed may be punished as if they had committed the crime themselves.”

In response to the illegal actions of their employee in the video, Planned Parenthood slams the group’s founder, Lila Rose, by saying they utilized “surreptitious videotaping and manipulative editing (McCormack, 2011)" Yet, consistency is lacking between their words and their actions, for the very day after the video’s release, Amy was fired (Eckholm & Medina, 2011). It is argued by many that these videos are not authentic. But that does not strike the validation of the situation. The same counsel would have been given regardless if they were actors or not. The only difference is the premeditated planting of a camera. It is safe to assume they have counseled truthful people in the same manner. These vulnerable citizens of the United States of America deserve better than this. America can do better than this. ..

The Sidewalk Horror Stories

About 3 weeks ago Pat Radell and I were at Planned Parenthood and a young woman and her friend came out. It was obvious that she was in pain from having a surgical abortion, she was doubled-over, crying and was leaning on her friend very heavily. It was a hot day so she and her friend stood on the side of Planned Parenthood under a tree close to where Pat and I were praying. We went over and tried to comfort her and talk or pray with her, offering her information on Rachel’s Vineyard and after abortion-care. She didn’t speak English so her friend translated everything to her.

Emily Knearle – VP of PP marketing/public relations walked by several times and the first couple of times she never even acknowledged the woman. I went and got a folding chair from the back of my car so the poor woman could at least sit down while she waited for a ride. Finally, Emily came over and asked “Ya doin’ ok?” and then announced to both women “You know you don’t have to listen to them, right. You can if you want to but you don’t have to.” It seemed to us that PP was eager to be protective of getting this woman through the door to take her money and abort her child, but couldn’t be bothered with her after she left, broken-spirited, grieving, and in agony.

All around America there are traces of deception. The last place Americans expect to find it is in the healthcare department. Despite the trust that Planned Parenthood has earned from individuals throughout the years as a healthcare provider, they have dedicated years to building a wall of deception; in order to secure the multi-billion dollar revenue that flows through their doors. There is no other way to put it; they have been two-faced, manipulative and simply just out-right liars. From the shocking mentality of their founder to a woman who worked on the inside for eight years, it will finally be revealed why Planned Parenthood needs to be de-funded. “We the People” have a duty to ensure that every person partakes in the dream of our Founding Fathers; which is “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”. Amidst this time of strife, there is a war being waged on home soil against the vulnerable, the unsuspecting and the innocent. Who will fight on their behalf?

Planned Parenthood, which was originally called the American Birth Control League, was founded by Margaret Sanger; who is most popularly known for the liberation she brought to the female race in her push for birth control. But, not commonly known was that Margaret’s fight for the legalization of birth control was driven by eugenic ideals. In April of 1924she wrote in her paper, the Birth Control Review that, “We must make this country into a garden for children instead of a disorderly back lot overrun with human weeds.”(p.111) Nobility on the behalf of Sanger was not present from the beginning; contrary to the empowering words Planned Parenthood eloquently states today. Birth control was not for women to “be in charge of their destinies[1]”. In her book Women and the New Race she speaks of birth control as “nothing more or less than the facilitation of the process of weeding out the unfit, of preventing the birth of defectives or of those who will become defectives.(p.229)” It’s interesting to note how Margaret Sanger would later change the name of her organization to Planned Parenthood. Perhaps she feared people would discover the true motives behind her birth control push; because the general public’s understanding of birth control was not the same ideal that motivated her actions.

Margaret specifically saw a certain race as these “human weeds “and “defectives”. The targeting of the black community is not only evident in her statements of this subject, but is brought to light through the people she surrounded herself with. In her autobiography that was published in1938, she relates how “a dozen invitations to speak to similar groups”(p.366) were extended to her when she spoke at a women’s branch of the Klu Klux Klan. Margaret strove to conceal her racism, but subtly infiltrated her ideals where, she believed, they would be the most undetected.

“The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population. And the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members. (p. 17-18)”

These same, devious actions are carried out to this day, considering that 78% of Planned Parenthood clinics are located in minority neighborhoods. (http://www.blackgenocide.org/pla nned.html). Margaret Sanger was not alone in her barbaric fight to exterminate the black population. Who better yet to recruit as comrades in a hidden holocaust than those who assisted in one of the most horrific mass murders, human history has ever known?

'Safe, legal and rare" has long been the pro-choice mantra, but these days it applies less and less to the reality of abortion. In New York City, officials reported this year that 41% of pregnancies end in abortion—double the national rate. In the black community, the figure is 60%.

Numbers like these motivate the Sisters of Life, a small order of nuns celebrating its 20th anniversary this summer. The sisters take traditional vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, but they also take a fourth vow "to protect and enhance the sacredness of human life." According to Archbishop Timothy Dolan, once the sisters connect with unwed pregnant women in need, "the battle is half over."

The order was the vision of the late John Cardinal O'Connor, whose Nov. 2, 1989, weekly column in the newspaper Catholic New York was titled "Help Wanted: Sisters of Life."

One respondent was Agnes Mary Donovan, a professor of developmental psychology at Columbia University Teachers College. She became one of the order's founders in 1991 and Mother Superior two years later.

There are now 70 members, with an average age of 37. Like Mother Agnes, the women who have joined are educated and worldly. They include a Yale Russian major who aspired to join the CIA, a former nurse who worked in the Middle East, and a former computer-manufacturing executive.

The sisters help those suffering from the trauma of a past abortion and those who want to put their children up for adoption. But their most important work is their "Visitation Mission," a spiritual call center where sisters have contact with about 700 women a year.

According to the coordinator of the Visitation Mission, Sister Magdalene, some of the women seeking counsel have "all the means in the world" but feel that their social and professional lives, as well as their marriage prospects, would be over unless they abort. "But pregnancy is a wake-up call," she explains. "It tends to stop them from doing what they might imagine they'd do without a second thought. We believe it's a moment of grace."

Half of those counseled by the Visitation Mission remain at home. Others are placed in private homes or in maternity facilities run by other religious orders. And then there are the women who move in with the nuns, in the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen.

There the women can stay as long as six months prior to giving birth and up to a year afterward, some holding down jobs, others studying. Meanwhile the sisters go about their lives of prayer, contemplation and occasional rollerblading. The nuns "rely on providence"—i.e., donations—for food, baby clothing and strollers. They excel at recruiting "Josephs" for heavier household chores. "Our motto is that no man leaves without doing us a favor," says Sister Rita Marie, the local convent superior.

The rooms are spartan and lights go out at 9 p.m. Following Cardinal O'Connor's vision, the nuns take a healing approach. They don't keep records of who is Catholic and who isn't, they don't try to convert anyone or arrange a baptism unless asked, and they don't even require that the women pray.

Since the first guest arrived in 1998, 150 babies have been born at the convent. The sisters take heart in "the beauty of a mother coming to the understanding of the dignity of her calling and how that gives life back to her," Sister Rita Marie explains.

Guests have included the homeless, pregnant and undocumented Tanzanian who showed up sobbing on the lawn of the sisters' retreat center in Stamford, Conn., and later likened the care at Sacred Heart to "angels planting a root and watering it every day." Then there was the Trinidadian nanny, six months pregnant with twins, whose boyfriend was trying to induce a miscarriage by kicking her down the stairs. There was the Polish immigrant who studied for the MCAT exam while living at the convent, as well as the former network journalist whose boyfriend split when she got a Down Syndrome diagnosis, and whose friends could not believe she'd throw herself so far "off-track" to have the child.

Another alumna had just finished a graduate program in England, gotten pregnant, been dumped by her law-student boyfriend and returned to the U.S. "in a horrible state of depression." For an educated woman with professional ambitions, she said "an abortion seems like the most practical thing in the world. But once you do get pregnant, it's not so easy."

She had a daughter, got a magazine job and a subsidized apartment. The boyfriend then returned and became a lawyer here. The couple married and had two more daughters. She is now managing editor of one of fashion's top magazines and sends her children to private school on the Upper East Side. "Life can turn on a dime," she tells colleagues she trusts with her story.

I had an interesting conversation with a black woman. She was very nice and said she's "pro-life" but immediately argued that before one month, abortions are just fine. I asked why? Where did she get this arbitrary "one month" time period and what's the significance of being able to kill a child at that point? I told her that was her own opinion...there was no biological fact to support it. She responded that it's because before one month, it's not really a baby, it's an embryo. And I said, "Well you know 'embryo' is just a scientific term, right? It's not a substitute for 'human being', it's just a stage of development." She replied, "Yeah, but the embryo isn't really developing at that stage." With what I'm sure was a very confused expression on my face, I pointed to our 6-week fetal model and asked, "If it's not developing, how does it get to this point?" She kind of laughed and quickly changed her argument (typical when arguing with a pro-abort). She then began to tell me that abortion is a better alternative if the mom isn't going to take care of her child and the child will suffer. I said, "Oh, so it's better that the baby is killed rather than suffer? Not to mention, why would we kill a child who might potentially suffer? Aren't there already millions of suffering children in the world right now? By your logic, shouldn't we kill them first? They're already suffering right now!" She smiled and I knew she got my point. Her argument was that unmarried girls can't raise children. Although, I've seen it done many times (and even had an interaction with a woman who's daughter had a baby at 16 and is thriving!). Way to give young women credit, lady! I thought women were strong?!? After that debate went on a couple more minutes, she changed her tune yet again, and said that, well, we just need to work on lowering instances of unwed pregnancies. Finally - AGREED! I left her with a bunch of our African American literature and explained to her how the abortion industry exploits and targets blacks, as well as our pamphlet on Margaret Sanger and her intentions. The black community should be outraged!

I've also seen many times when children or spouses slow down to stop and look at our table and then a parent or other spouse realizes who we are and what we do and they physically drag the other person away. I always want to ask especially the parents, "What are you afraid of them finding out?" The truth, perhaps? We have a fetal model on the table and hand out 10-week post-conception babies. Kids LOVE them! We have no graphic photos at our booth...just information. It always irks me. They can take or leave the info, but I'd so much rather engage in a conversation with them (even if it's confrontational), than them drag their children away. Half of me wants to even chase them down and ask, "Are there any questions I can answer for you?" Unfortunately I don't think that would be appropriate! :)

Our Annual Banquet Coordinator, Delia, tells of her experience yesterday at the State Fair...

"My friend Erika and I worked the Delaware Right to Life booth on Friday at the annual state fair. Hottest Day Ever. But troopers for Life mind not the heat! Though the crowds were thin due to the extremely hot weather, we still had several visitors stop by the booth, all pro-life supporters. Over and over again, visitors told us how pleased and hopeful they were to see young people supporting the pro-life cause. Considering Erika and I are both now officially thirty-somethings, we thanked them for categorizing us as "young people".

Overall, people were open and kind and gave us such positive feedback. Though I know this positive response will not always be the case, so far it has been for me; I am continually touched by the beauty and goodness I see in my fellow Delawareans when conversing with them at these events. Delaware IS pro-life. If only our politicians will catch up with the times.

I am also forever grateful to Milford Music, our friendly booth neighbors, who played Christmas carols throughout the afternoon to help us all cool down... if not physically, then mentally. Molto grazie!"

A Story of Love and Life

On May 21st, the IHM pro-life community celebrated the first Mass for the Unborn which had a two-fold purpose: to remember and pray for those babies lost to abortion, and to bless those mothers who are expecting, and their babies.

The music was beautiful and Msgr. Lemon gave an inspired homily on Life. A mother and daughter who were present at the Mass, left church and the mother went to a store by their home with her husband. There they saw a very pregnant girl sitting on the curb. Commenting to her husband that she had just left a Mass for the Unborn, she recognized that there was clearly something wrong for this girl and they stopped to ask if they could help her.

She told them that she was temporarily homeless, 38 weeks pregnant, thought she was in labor and had no one to help her. So they took her to the hospital where she was told that she was not in labor. Further discussion revealed that she wanted to give the baby for adoption, but didn't know how to go about it and had made no arrangements. So the mother requested that a social worker from the hospital talk to the pregnant girl to give her resources to make contact with an adoption agency and get the information she needed. Before leaving her, they gave her money for a place to stay for the weekend and made contact with Adoptions from the Heart to start the adoption process, and helped her find a place to stay after the weekend. Before departing, they gave her their cell phone numbers so she could call them for the help she would still need.

The following Wednesday she called and the mother took her back to the hospital. She asked the mother to be her support coach, and after a few hours she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. The mother was so humbled and grateful to the Holy Spirit that she was able to be a witness to the birth of this beautiful baby boy. The baby has now been adopted by a wonderful couple who had been waiting for several years for a baby.

The birth father of the baby also asked the mother and her husband what church they attend and they invited him to come to Mass with them.

The mother has since been offered a job and is looking for permanent housing. She knows in her heart that the best gift she could have given her baby was a wonderful home with parents who can give her baby everything he deserves in life, and even in her desperate situation, she chose life for her baby.

We wanted to share this inspiring example of the Holy Spirit at work in our parish with everyone and thank the mother, husband and daughter for the wonderful Spirit of Love they shared.

To volunteer, or not to volunteer.. that is the question.

With the Delaware State Fair fast approaching, and open time slots needed to be filled, I thought it a perfect time to relate a personal story of one of my recent volunteer experiences with Delaware Right to Life. I hope it inspires at least one person to seize an upcoming opportunity( ::cough:: State Fair) to be a witness for life.

One of the venues where Delaware Right to Life sets up a booth every year, is Newark Nite. I was there with another board member, friend of mine, and from the moment our shift started we rarely had a dull moment! There was a steady flow of people constantly coming up to our booth, to look at the literature, take a bumper sticker, or check out the baby models we had ( a BIG eye grabber ) which shows the actual size and form of the developing baby in the womb.

One of the things we give out for free to children, are the little plastic baby models of a 12 week old baby. When we were explaining to a family that this was the actual size of a child, the father said "But that's not the actual form right?". We were quick to clarify that indeed it was; fingers, toes, ears are visible. This is not an "opinion", this is science. The facts are on our side.

A little later, two young men, on two separate occasions came up to us to give their praise and support for our cause and that they in fact were pro-life; but they felt like they didn't have the right to interfere in a "woman's" issue, or that they wouldn't know what to say and how to say it. Going to the front line is truly a tough step to overcome; it is only natural to feel nervous. But, to me as a young woman, I am impacted more by a man taking a stand for life than a woman. It is what our society is lacking, and crying out for; men to become protectors once again. Besides, it takes two to make a baby.

I will leave off with this last story which didn't happen to me , but to my friend that night...

A young man ( all these young men!!!) came up to her suddenly and said, "Can I shake your hand?". She was reluctant at first, as anyone would be, thinking it was a gag. But, she gave him her hand and he shook it saying, "We had a baby in college."

Sometimes you don't have to say anything, just your presence is enough...

Who is Baby Joseph Maraachli and Why Should I Care?

The world has taken notice of a 14-month old baby from Canada whose family has been fighting the medical establishment since October to help their child breathe. Moe and Sana Maraachli were refused a tracheotomy for their son because the apparently fatal neurological disease that the child has renders further intervention “futile.”

Working with many others, we at Priests for Life arranged to have the baby transferred to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in St Louis, and I went on the medical jet to pick up the baby and his father on Sunday night March 13. Now, the child has another chance at getting better care, and the family another chance at maximizing the time they can spend with their child.

A lot of media has accompanied the event. One reporter who was not too interested in covering the story asked, “Who the hell is Baby Joseph and why should I care?”

The short answer is, Baby Joseph is all of us.

After all, the problem underlying this case is not simply one particular hospital or the Canadian medical system. The problem is a philosophy of life that says that how valuable you are depends on how well you function. The problem is a philosophy of medicine that says that if someone is going to die anyway, there’s no benefit in prolonging life. The problem is a philosophy of suffering that says we can actually determine what somebody else’s level of happiness is, and measure their misery, and that if they don’t have the good sense to eliminate it, we can step in and do so against their wishes.

If we don’t think that we and our loved ones will be affected by this philosophy when it comes to our own medical challenges and decisions, we should think again. It’s happening every day, often with subtle or not so subtle pressure from medical professionals, who, instead of rendering medical judgments, render value judgments. Doctors are not supposed to judge for us the “meaning” or “value” of extending the life of a loved one, or our own life. Rather, they are supposed to judge for us whether a particular treatment or intervention will have certain effects on a loved one or on us. They need to leave it to us, in consultation with our family and clergy, to determine what meaning or value we find in the situation.

This is what the parents of Baby Joseph, together with Priests for Life and many others, are trying to say. Baby Joseph’s parents, who want to care for him no matter how long or short his life may be, were told that this life wasn’t worth extending. It’s time to draw a line in the sand and tell the medical profession that this is not their role. “Life not worth living” belongs to a philosophy that led to one of the world’s greatest holocausts, which ended with the declaration “Never Again.”

Our efforts on behalf of Baby Joseph can actually be summarized by those two words.

It is time we stand publicly to tell Congress "No more tax money for Planned Parenthood!". Vigils will be held in Wilmington(7th and Shipley) and Dover(805 S. Governors Avenue).

Here are a few pics of our local March for Life in Wilmington today. It was about 20 degrees with wind chills at 0, but as you can see, we have some courageous pro-lifers here in Delaware!

As you can see out front, PP always hires off-duty cops on baby-killing day (Fridays). They had nearly their entire staff outside...one of whom was recording us walking by. I'm sure she was hoping to "get us" on something, but unfortunately for her, WE actually follow the law!

Philadelphia Abortion Doctor Facing 8 Counts of Murder

Charged with killing babies born alive after attempted abortion

Newark, Delaware, January 19, 2011—Today, the shocking news of the arrest of Philadelphia abortion doctor, Kermit Gosnell has left the general public speechless. Gosnell , who was arrested Wednesday morning along with his wife and eight others, has been charged with eight counts of murder; seven of whom were infants born alive after late term abortions. After the babies were born alive, he used scissors to cut into the back of their necks and sever their spinal cords. It is believed that these children are only a few of perhaps hundreds that have been killed at the hands of Kermit Gosnell; but due to the absence of those records he cannot be charged further.

The eighth charge Gosnell will face is that of third degree murder in the case of Karnamaya Mongar, who died on November 20^th 2009, when she overdosed on anesthetics under his care. Along with Kermit Gosnell’s complete lack of respect for human life, it has been discovered that his medical office contained bags and bottles of aborted children, operating rooms with liter boxes, and unsanitary instruments he used to carry out procedures.

Delaware Right to Life is outraged at the fact that for over twenty years government officials were made aware of Kermit Gosnell’s malpractices and nothing was done to ensure the protection of patients and their children. If action had been taken sooner the lives of Mongar and those seven babies might have been spared. We commend the efforts taken by District Attorney, Seth Williams who had the decency to intervene in one of today’s most recent attacks against the human person, when all others remained silent. We here in America will not see these gruesome injustices which are contrary to our freedoms come to end until personhood is finally restored to the child at the moment of conception. We keep in prayer the victims of this crime, and Mr. Gosnell, for his conversion to life-affirming work and the love of Christ.

These are the people who have shaped and continue to shape my philosophy of life.

They are an example to us of the example we are called to be to one another. Living the everyday life is sometimes the simplest, and hardest thing to do; but it makes the largest waves by touching the lives of those around us. It's that classic chain reaction, and it begins with you and me. Will we be a hero to the person sitting next to us?- A listening ear, a comforting smile? The Big, Disappointing Apple

Yesterday the Chiaroscuro Foundation held a long-overdue press conference in New York City to call attention to the city's abortion rate. FORTY-ONE PERCENT of pregnancies in NYC end in abortion. I haven't had access to the video of the press conference, but there are wonderful analyses at CatholicVote.org and National Review.

God bless Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York for his candid and no-nonsense, yet quite compassionate remarks on the issue:
For the first time in my happy twenty-one months as a New Yorker, I am embarrassed to be a member of a cherished community I now — usually with a lot of pride — call home.

That 41% of New York babies are aborted — a percentage even higher in the Bronx, and among our African-American babies in the womb — is downright chilling.

This New York community is rightly celebrated for its warm welcome to immigrants, for its hospitality, sense of embrace and inclusion, and gritty sensitivity for those in need.

But we are tragically letting down the tiniest, most fragile and vulnerable: the little baby in the womb.

We have to do more than shiver over these chilling statistics!

I invite all to come together to make abortion rare, a goal even those who work to expand the abortion license tell us they share.

A quarter century ago, Cardinal John O’Connor publicly stated: “Any woman who is pregnant and in need can come to the Church and we will help you,” a pledge Cardinal Egan, and now I, reaffirm. Through our Catholic charities, our adoption services, our lobbying on behalf of pregnant women and mothers of infants, our support for life-giving alternatives to the decision all call tragic — abortion, — in our education of youth for healthy, responsible, virtuous sexual behavior, our health care, — we have done our best to keep that promise, … and these haunting statistics only prod us to keep at it.

Mother Teresa remarked that the worst poverty was to take the life of a baby so we could live, as we want. New York does not deserve the gravestone, “Abortion capital of the world.” Our boast is the Statue of Liberty, not the “Grim Reaper.”

No Easy Decision?

In the words of the brilliant Mark Crutcher, "Killing your child shouldn't be an easy decision." Yet despite its title, apparently MTV implies that abortion is exactly that -- an easy decision. Their new show, No Easy Decision, trivializes abortion and furthers MTV's liberal agenda by portraying the decision to have an abortion as just another option within the realm of "women's reproductive rights."

Ok, so I readily admit that I haven't actually seen this MTV show that everyone is talking about. Show like this just serve to raise my blood pressure to dangerous levels. But I've read some reviews from trusted sources and frankly, I don't think I need to watch it to know exactly what their goal is. Foremost, it's to coddle their pro-abort supporters like Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and the rest of their ilk, since they were so upset that MTV's other teen pregnancy show, 16 and Pregant, didn't show any of the teens having abortions. Could this be a more glaring indictment about what they truly stand for? Certainly not for keep abortion rare if they're upset that teenagers aren't having them! In public!

I'll leave the rest of the commentary to those who have had the brass to watch the despicable show, and point you to Kathryn Jean Lopez, the New York Times (shockingly), and Big Hollywood for some great analyses.

But thanks, MTV, for keeping our culture self-centered, secular, and pornified.

KOMEN'S EXPRESS POLICY ALLOWING PLANNED PARENTHOOD GRANTS:Because Komen refused their request to stop providing grants to Planned Parenthood, Curves, a privately held fitness franchise firm owned by women’s health advocate Gary Heavin, ceased supporting Komen events. Here is Komen’s response by its Public Relations Manager Kristin Kelly:

"The Komen Foundation is confident that none of its community Affiliates have stopped funding Planned Parenthood as a result of the pressure from Curves, Operation Save America or any other organization. In fact, when faced with opposition from Curves or the threat that Curves franchises would no longer support the Foundation unless Planned Parenthood funding was eliminated, the Komen Foundation told Mr. Heavin (founder and CEO of Curves) that we would not, in any way, undermine the integrity of our grant-making process. In addition the Foundation told Mr. Heavin that it would continue to allow Komen Affiliates to provide breast health education and screening grants to Planned Parenthood if the grant application was approved through the process outlined above. As a result, Curves chose to suspend its support of Komen Affiliate events, including sponsorship of the Komen Race for the Cure (r). In 2003, Komen Affiliates awarded $38.4 million in grants to support community outreach programs, including 21 grants to their local Planned Parenthood chapters totaling more than $475,000."

Don't let all the tap-dancing fool you. Just because Komen claims the money it gives PP is used solely for breast services (as opposed to abortion services), it doesn't take a genius to figure out that that only frees up other monies for them to use for abortion services. For instance, you have two $10 bills in your pocket. Your mom gave you one, and your friend gave you the other. Your mom tells you not to buy cigarettes with the $10 she gives you. That clearly doesn't mean she thinks it's o.k. to buy cigarettes with the other $10 bill. It doesn't matter where the bills come from...you're not supposed to buy cigarettes!

Please, please, please spread the word about this. Support Curves. Pressure Komen. Post it to Facebook, Twitter, blog it, whatever you need to do. I know there are SO many people out there who would not support Komen or would demand they stop supporting PP if they knew this was going on. I'll be the first to admit, that it's a shame that this is going on. Besides supporting PP, this is a wonderful organization dedicated to fighting a horrible disease. But we can't claim to be for saving women's lives if we're funding the killing of girls in the womb.

I really hate to have to bring this to you, and though it's not recent news, it still isn't common knowledge. While we all want to eradicate breast cancer, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation seems like a champion of women's lives, please be aware that there is an unfortunate link between this foundation and the nation's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood. How can a foundation as important as Komen in fighting a disease as destructive as breast cancer, also funnel money through an organization that has killed thousands of unborn women each year? Not to mention the obvious abortion-breast cancer link, which is described in detail below. It's a shame. The following editorial was posted on LifeNews.com.*

Like many families, my grandmother and great-grandmother both had breast cancer. The issue of wanting to fight what harms your family or friends is noble. So when I tell people that I do not support Susan G. Komen an organization that exists to “fight breast cancer”, I normally get the look of one: why would you abandon your family or two: oh there goes one of those extremist.
However, my reasons are not that extreme, but rather principled.
I'm sure many of you reading this article have also been confronted with the issue of if I ‘m pro-life then how can I support an organization that supports the nation’s leading abortion provider. Hopefully, the following principles can shed some light on how to respond sympathetically, yet firm with why you cannot wear pink, or join the race, or all the various ways that Susan G. Komen is supported.
Principle # 1 Don't give to organizations that promote the shedding of innocent blood.
If this were a list of commandments, we could start with Thou Shall Not Kill. However, Proverbs 6:17 states that one of the seven things God hates are hands that shed innocent blood.
Unfortunately, Susan G. Komen has given over $3 million dollars between 2003 and 2008 to Planned Parenthood which is the nation’s leading abortion provider.
While Susan G. Komen makes claims that these grants go for breast exams, once the funds go to Planned Parenthood they are fungible. For example, you can throw two twenty dollar bills into a purse one from a friend and one from your own account, but when you go to pay the light bill you use both.
The same is true with Planned Parenthood’s money it receives from Komen. Whenever someone applies for a grant they can say that while this $5,000 is going to breast cancer research, 20 percent of that money is going to pay for administrative costs like keeping the lights on and paying rent. So in essence, the money that people are raising to fight breast cancer is also going to keep the lights on at Planned Parenthood.
According to the 2008 Annual Report from Planned Parenthood, breast cancer services decreased by 4% and abortion procedures increased by 6%. In 2008, Susan G. Komen gave $731,000 to Planned Parenthood.
Principle # 2 Know and Recognize the Risk Factors for the Disease You are Trying to Prevent.
There are certain risks that can increase an individual’s chance of getting breast cancer. While Susan G. Komen says that they believe in knowing your risk factors, they have repeatedly denied the link between breast cancer and one of the greatest avoidable risk factors, abortion.
According to Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, “29 out of 38 worldwide epidemiological studies show an increased risk of breast cancer of approximately 30% among women who have had an abortion.”
When a woman has an abortion she interrupts the natural process of estrogen production and breast development. When a woman first becomes pregnant her body produces a Type 1 carcinogen, cancer causing agent, estrogen in order to nourish and provide for the baby. If the mother has her child, her body stops producing as much estrogen and her breasts mature. However, if that process is interrupted, the estrogen production continues and her breasts stay in an immature state, making them more susceptible to breast cancer.
Groups like Susan G. Komen acknowledge that the level of exposure to estrogen throughout a woman’s lifetime is one of the greatest predictors for breast cancer. Sadly, they do not acknowledge that the increased exposure to estrogen after an abortion could increase risks of breast cancer as well. For an organization whose primary goal is “to have a world without breast cancer”, you would think they would try to let women know of all the risk factors for breast cancer, especially those that are preventable like abortion.
Recently, in an article by Jill Stanek, pro-life author and blogger, asked a very thought-provoking question, “Is it really “morally permissible” to cause breast cancer in one room if screening for it in the next?”
Stanek also noted in her article that recently that the ties between Planned Parenthood and Susan G. Komen are running deeper and deeper. See an excerpt below from Stanek’s article:
Three days ago a diligent pro-lifer in Washington state discovered on Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest’s IRS 990 forms that it has held a 12.5 percent share in Metro Centre, a mall in Peoria, Ill., since 2006. PPGNW is Washington’s largest abortion provider. (It is also currently under investigation for Medicaid fraud.) Metro Centre is owned by Eric Brinker. Eric Brinker is the son of Nancy Goodman Brinker, the founder of SGK.

Eric also sits on SGK’s board. Eric was a stand-up guy and responded to most of my initial questions. He explained in an e-mail, “This share represents a minority, non-operating interest in the business which they inherited from one of the original shareholders, a resident of Peoria. I, Eric Brinker, have controlling interest in Metro Centre.” But when I pursued follow-up questions, Eric wrote he was no longer available. So there is much still unanswered. Why didn't PPGNW cash in its inheritance? Why didn't Eric buy? If the share was willed, it was worth something. The real-estate market was thriving in 2006. It appears both partners are OK with this now four-year-old business partnership.
In essence, Planned Parenthood and Susan G. Komen’s nephew own a mall together.
The bottom line is that Susan G. Komen is not accomplishing its mission every time it gives to Planned Parenthood.
Every time a woman has an abortion and part of the money to fund that center staying open came from Komen, they are putting women at a greater risk for breast cancer.
Every organization no matter how noble the cause they claim to represent seems to be needs to be held accountable.
The question is will you?

On Genocide

The Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) is coming to the University of Delaware this week (April 21/22 on the UD Green. If you're around, stop by!). GAP is a traveling display of large photos of aborted children, that travels to college campuses around the country. The goal is to get the public - namely students - to think differently about abortion and all circumstances surrounding it. You can see photos from different campuses here. WARNING: they are graphic.

DRTL is a co-sponsor. I attended an amazing pro-life apologetics seminar yesterday, held for all those who plan to volunteer at the display. Some of it was a refresher for me. But a lot of it was completely new. The facts weren't new - they never change. But the way of thinking and arguing the abortion issue was new. And amazing.

I'm going to post more on the content of the apologetics in a series of future posts. But for now, I want to address abortion as genocide. GAP, obviously, defines abortion as a genocide, comparing it to other genocides like the ones in Rwanda and Darfur, the Holocaust, slavery, and Cambodia. Many people are uncomfortable with this analogy.

"Genocide" is defined as: "The deliberate and systematic destruction of a national, racial, religious, political, cultural, ethnic, or other group defined by exterminators as undesirable."

Abortion is certainly deliberate. Not many women "accidentally" kill their wanted unborn child. If they do that, ironically, it's a homicide. But that's another post.

Abortion is systematic. We have killing centers that we call abortion clinics. It is funded and approved by the government. We have lobbying groups that exist solely to keep the practice legal.

Abortion is the destruction of a group - the unborn - deemed undesirable by the exterminators. An "unwanted pregnancy" is undesirable by the pregnant mother.

Take, for example, the slavery and the civil rights movement. During slavery, blacks were considered less than human. 2/3 of a person, in fact. Whites deemed black undesirable and were therefore allowed to own, trade, beat, and kill them when they didn't perform.

Take, for instance, the Holocaust. Jews were deemed undesirable by the Nazis and were therefore starved, gassed and forced into concentration camps.

Today, it is obvious that most of us in America believe that both of these circumstances were heinous and morally wrong. Why, then, do we allow, justify, and fight for the right to do the same thing to the unborn?

My husband sent me a comment to an article that he read today. It said:

"I prefer that someone aborts a baby that they don’t want than have it and treat the baby/child as though they are sorry they had it. While it’s obviously sad to kill any baby for any reason, someone having a baby they don’t want will ultimately only hurt the child more in the end."

Unfortunately I've heard that before. In fact, in a conversation with a friend, she basically made that argument about some of the poor kids at the school where she teaches. She was making that same case for abortion, that it's better that people who can't afford or take care of kids have an abortion. I replied, "those are definitely sad situations but do you really think to yourself 'they'd be better off if they were dead?'" I anticipated a reaction to the effect of, "Of course not! I never thought of it that way!" But instead she just shrugged. That was enlightening.

The best prolife argument to that is to ask the person if they think born children who are abused and don't have the "perfect" life everyone else has should be killed too? If they say no, ask, "Then what's the difference?" I should have asked my friend if she believed that we should have the right to kill those kids now that they're already here.

In this back & forth with my husband on this topic, he responded, "The real question is: what if it was you?"

Exactly. Jen at Conversion Diary has a post about becoming pro-life. One of the turning points for her was when her husband realized that everyone is pro-their OWN life! So who are we to decide who gets to live? Unfortunately, again, some will argue that they'd rather be dead than live in certain situations. Whether that's true or not who knows, but its an argument some ppl make.

And that argument quickly falls apart, because at the beginning of life they wouldn't "rather anything." Someone else is lucky enough to decide for them, whether they like it or not. They only have the power to even believe they'd rather be dead because at someone else's hand, they were allowed to live in the first place. It always boils down to the same thing. We first have to get them to admit that we're dealing with humans...not blobs of flesh. Now that that has been scientifically proven (even though some won't admit it, it's an easy argument to win), we're dealing with the more philosophical argument of who should be the deciding party of who lives and who dies. When people begin arguing that some people should be able to kill born people for one reason or another, then we're dealing with genocide accomplices. And the arguer always somehow vainly assumes they'll be in the deciding party, not thevictim party. Ironic.

Such is the way with genocide. What happens when you are deemed one of the undesirables?

Exposing the LIES

When will our mainstream culture figure this out? This is the mode of operation at almost every Planned Parenthood across the country. But somehow, they still have credibility in the mainstream media and receive billions of tax dollars from the government...even more now, thanks to the stealthscare law. Why is it that small, caring pregnancy centers are victim to these kinds of ordinances such as the fraudulent Baltimore City Council ordinance requiring such centers to post signs stating they do not provide contraception or abortions. Ironically, a PP of Maryland spokesperson said such law is "just responsible policy." Is the video below responsible, PP spokesperson??? Thank God for Lila Rose and her undercover operations at PP "clinics" across the country. She's an amazing young woman. If you don't know her, please check out her organization, LiveAction. The Callousness

I almost threw up when I saw this photo. It was taken at the March for Life in DC, of course by some anti-life protesters.

I'm shocked and appalled at the callousness shown towards this precious boy's life (talk about exploitation...see post below). This sign insinuates that this child's life was not a blessing from God, but was instead at the mercy of his mother and father. It implies that he (and all unborn children) is not a unique and special being, with his own soul, created in the image and likeness of God, but instead a simple decision to be made, depending on how his existence would affect the convenience of his parents. Ugh. I found this image months ago on a blog and it haunts me still. However, I do think it exposes the real mindset of the pro-aborts. Children AREN'T blessings and special individuals with their own souls and purpose. They're simply a by-product of sex whose entire existences are able to be determined by our conveniences. Please pray for this child's parents.

They've hit a new low

Planned Parenthood has hit a new low (Is that a surprise? They kill children.). A fellow pro-lifer brought this to my attention today. Here was her email:

I just visited Planned Parenthood of Delaware's web site and guess what? They are hosting a Pledge-A-Picket fundraising drive! People sign up to pledge $X for each day pro-life folks picket PP organizations between April 5 - June 5 of this year. Whee! Isn't that special??

This is ultra sickening. Exploiting (well, let's be honest, it's not new that PP exploits something) our right to free speech to raise money to kill children. We have a group of brave pro-lifers who vigil outside of PP on Friday mornings in Wilmington, and Thursdays in Dover. This email was circulating among us and it was tossed around that we should stop vigiling while this heinous fundraising drive was going on. That could be the worst course of action. This "cutsie" little pledge drive isn't going to make much of a difference for them monetarily. They get loads and loads of money from the government. Money isn't what we, the pro-life movement, are concerned with. We know that one save infuriates them more than any amount of money makes them happy. We can't play into their vile little games. That's exactly what they want - for us to recede so women don't actually have a choice. We have to stay the course...it's obviously working!!

What happens when parents' rights are usurped for the "right to choose"

If you're a parent, especially of a teenage daughter, this article should absolutely infuriate you. A high school in the Seattle area arranged for and transported a teenage girl to have an abortion WITHOUT HER PARENTS' KNOWLEDGE!! Perhaps it's not all that surprising to you in 2010, but it should still infuriate you! This is exactly the goal of the pro-abort movement. They want to usurp parental rights for an absolute "right to choose." They believe a teen, even pre-teen, young girl's right to choose to kill her unborn child is paramount to her parents' knowledge, support, and direction. Because if the parents aren't in control - guess who is? The school and the school's environment. And guess who is penetrating school environment more and more every day? PLANNED PARENTHOOD.

This is no joke, folks. A DRTL member attended a focus group in January held by Planned Parenthood AND the State of Delaware (which, in itself is scary, that they're working together). But scarier still is what came out of the meeting. Here are his notes:

We were all given "resource packets" from PP. I will provide more details later but for now here are some of the things we have to look forward to in a parent mini-course.

According to PP:

By age five your child should:

Know that touching yourself for pleasure is normal,

That a woman does not have to have a baby unless she wants to,

Ages 5 - 7:

Should know that people experience sexual pleasure in a number of ways,

Should know that sexual identity includes sexual orientation - lesbian, gay, strait, or bisexual.

Ages 8 - 12:

Should know that sex is pleasurable, not only a way to have a baby,

Should know how to protect against sexualy transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancy

Should know what abortion is,

Should know about contraceptive methods,

Should know that a woman does not need to have sex to get pregnant,

Should know that no one has to become a parent,

Should know that contraceptive options are available including emergency contraception,

Should know how to get contraceptives,

Should be able to talk about how pregnancy can be avoided

Should be able to name a variety of contraceptives

Again - this is not a joke! This is the content that PP is pushing onto public schools. And with all the funding they receive from this federal government - especially now via the "healthcare" bill - they should have no problem passing through the doors. And we wonder why teenage pregnancy rates are so high???

Please, please, please know what your children are learning in "health" classes at school. KNOW what they're being told and given in the nurse's office. KNOW what's happening in the health clinic. Because clearly, when it comes to learning about sex in school, its not just the other students we have to worry about.

It seems Bart Stupak's "pro-life" compromise on healthcare was brokered with a former abortion lobbyist! White House counsel Robert Bauer worked with Stupak to draft this agreement. Bauer, it seems, is a former Planned Parenthood lobbyist and EMILY's List counsel. Wonderful!! If you were on the fence about whether or not this executive order meant anything in the pro-life arena, I think you have your answer.

It's shocking, utterly SHOCKING that Obama has already gone back on a promise! What?? WHAT?!? (Sarcasm alert.) So apparently Obama joyfully signed the healthcare bill into law today (no surprise there), but COMPLETELY IGNORED the executive order that was supposed to magically take abortion funding out of healthcare. "No really, Bart, I promise." I can't believe that Stupak would agree to something like this without the executive order being signed BEFORE his traitorous vote on healthcare. I guess he figured that since Obama hasn't ever gone back on ANY promises, he could trust him on this too! Oh...wait... The most transparent, ethical, honest Congress ever...right?!?

"Freedom dies a little bit today."

It's fitting that after a warm, sunny, beautiful weekend, today is rainy and gloomy. I think someone is sending us a message regarding last night's vote. As Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn said,"Freedom dies a little bit today. Unfortunately some are celebrating." So true.

Most disappointing was Bart Stupak's caving to a phony executive order "compromise." A News Journal reporter called me last night and wanted my opinion on the executive order, and if I truly thought it would stop abortion funding in healthcare. My short answer - no chance. For many reasons:

1. Any executive order can be rescinded as fast as it's signed.

2. I've read the EO. It says nothing. All it does is essentially say "here's what's in the healthcare bill and I, as president, am going to make certain people aware that it says that." Pointless.

3. The EO does not prevent insurance companies that cover abortions from participating in the exchange.

4. Any budgetary issues with legislation have to be amended through legislation. An executive order can't do anything to funding issues. Which brings me to my next point...

5. If Obama & Co. were serious about not using federal dollars to pay for abortion, they would have explicitly and clearly put that kind of language in the bill ages ago.

6. Obama & Co. are SO beholden to Planned Parenthood and the abortion lobby, there's no way he's going to disappoint them.

Then the reporter asked me why I thought Stupak finally gave in. Quite simply: The "D" behind his name. I now don't believe he ever had any intention of voting no on the bill. He just had to hold out for the purpose of coming across as pro-life for his supporters. All he needed was that tiny sliver of light and he always intended to give in. Plus, I told the reporter that I'm certain there were just more backroom payoffs involved. Then I came across this. Coincidence? Wow, less than a million dollars for millions of unborn lives. He's a cheap vote!

So what now? I'm not sure. There's talk of repeal, lawsuits from individual states, etc. I haven't had a chance to let it all sink in yet, but I hope there's hope to turn this around. Otherwise, we can go ahead and change our name to Amerika.

I was sent the following blog post by a pro-life friend. The blog is written by a priest, who was sent the letter by a friend. As 40 Days for Life approaches, please read this and consider joining the vigil. The importance of sidewalk counselors and vigilers is immeasurable:

A friend from out of state sent along the following message which appeared in the local parish bulletin. It provides a poignant reminder of why it is important to have folks out front of abortion mills. Have a box of tissues ready, just in case.

Dear Father:

I have struggle with writing this letter. I truly feel called to do it, but at the same time, my heart still breaks every time I think of that day. March 6, 1998 - the fact that I was heading towards an abortion clinic hadn't set in yet. I was too busy begging the boy next to me to turn the car around. This boy was supposed to love me.

We'd been dating for over two years when we found out I was pregnant. The plan had been for us to get engaged in two years when he graduated college and marry the year after when I did. I figured this just moved the plan forward a bit. Neither of us had planned on a child yet, but he knew how I felt. We discussed what we would do if this situation popped up. He knew what I believed. He said he believed in a woman's choice and he would support me no matter what.

How naive I was Father. How I wished I had followed the Church's teaching and not had sex until I was married. You see, planning on marrying someone is not the same as actually marrying them. The support is not the same. I also learned the hard way that when the boy said he supported my right to choose, he really meant he supported my right to have an abortion.

This boy I loved had been slowly becoming a dominant force in my life. He had been sweet in high school, but in college jealousy and stress began to take over. I became something he could control and relieve his stress with. Never did I expect him to cross this line though.

I spent a week crying and begging. He spent a week shutting me out. He shoved, grabbed, yelled, and threatened. Then came March 6th: the day of my appointment at the abortion clinic. I was still trying to change his mind.

I told him I thought it was a boy. His name would be Michael. I told him regardless of what he believed, we could at least agree that the potential for life was inside me. If we did nothing, a beautiful child would grow and be born. For a moment I thought he would turn the car around. He just looked at me and said, "You're not going to let this be easy." Of course I wasn't; I didn't want to do it.

My mother had already told me I couldn't come home. I wasn't even allowed to come home just to give the baby up for adoption. She didn't want my siblings to think she approved. So, all my hopes rested on the boy who said he loved me; the boy who said it was my choice. Abortion was not my choice. I wanted my child, but he didn't care.

The closer we got to the clinic the harder I prayed. I prayed for protesters to be outside the clinic doors. I knew I could run to them. I knew they'd keep my child safe. But no one was there in the parking lot. There were no people holding signs. There was no one praying a rosary across the street, waiting to tell me everything would be alright. I was utterly alone.

When we entered the clinic my whole body was shaking with sobs. The lady at the check-in asked if we wanted to t talk to a counselor. The boy shook his head; I told her if we talked to a counselor I'd probably change my mind. She laughed. I had been trying to reach out, to tell her I needed help and she laughed like I made a joke.

The boy and I made our way to the waiting room and sat down. So many faces in there I'll never forget. I watched them go in one by one. My crying was almost uncontrollable now. My helplessness was engulfing me. I wondered why no one in that office came to check o me. Why didn't they say "You don't look ready to make this decision" or "We can't let you do this today" or "We insist you spend time with the counselor first."

No one did. They did come to tell me it was my turn to come down. I followed the lady down the stairs, changed into a gown and sat down with three other girls waiting my turn. I looked around and realized I couldn't do this. I didn't care if I couldn't go home. I would go somewhere, but not here.

I changed back into my clothes and walked up the stairs. I was about 100 feet from the door when he stopped me. I looked up into his face and told him I couldn't do this, we would figure something out. At that moment he grabbed my arm and asked the nurse if there was a room we could talk in. She sent us in a back room alone. She let him lead me away from that front door. She sent on one in to mediate, no one in to check on us.

I had to endure a half hour of hearing how he regretted ever knowing me. He told me that he would take out his hatred for me on this child. He grabbed my face, shoved me into a wall, looked down at me, and told me I could not leave. When I was allowed to leave that conference room, it was because he was sure I had no more fight left. He was sure I knew no one was going to help me.

I flipped him off as I headed back down the stairs. No one stopped me, but by this point I didn't expect it. I knew they weren't really there to help me. They wanted the same thing he did, to rip my child from my womb, to pretend my Michael never was.

The thing no one tells you about abortion is that you hear it. They give you meds to numb your body, but you are awake. I heard them scrape my baby from my body. I had nightmares about that sound for years.

Then I was moved to a recovery room. It was filled with recliners. I sat in one still crying. There was another girl across from me. I asked her how long she thought it would hurt. She gave me the clinical answer of about 4 weeks. No, I told her. How long do you think our hearts will hurt? The girl began to tell me her story, she began to cry as well. This was where the nurse finally intervened. She came and moved the girl away from me. Apparently it was not okay to show emotion for the loss of the children that never were.

Eventually I left that clinic and left that boy. I have never left that experience though. I have never been able to answer all my questions.

I know that it took about 6 years for me to stop having nightmares. I know that I stayed away from Church for about 4 years because I felt unworthy to be there. I know that I spent many nights after the birth of my children wondering what Michael would have been like. I know that I ask God to take care of my little boy in heaven. I know that God forgives. I know that I have been healed in this Church. I know that the pain in my heart will never go away. The past eleven years have dulled the pain, but it will never disappear.

What I don't know...is why I got so close to that door, but never made it out. Why was no one there to help me? Why did they let him take me alone into that conference room? Why did they let me go back down? Why wasn't I strong enough to keep fighting?

I'm not 18 anymore, Father. I am much stronger. While I cannot fight for Michael, I can fight for other women/girls like me. I can fight for children like Michael that deserve the life he never had. Please use this letter however you see fit. Let this experience become something for God's glory.

Those of you who attended DRTL's 2009 Annual Banquet had the privilege to hear a wonderful and inspiring speaker, Pam Tebow. She spoke of her life-affirming story despite undergoing a pregnancy under adverse conditions. While in the Philippines she contracted dysentery and was urged by a doctor to have an abortion. She refused, and that child (who was predicted to die or be severly handicapped) is now Heisman Trophy winner and NCAA football national champion, Tim Tebow!

Now Pam and Tim Tebow are undergoing much criticism for their pro-life Super Bowl ad, set to air on CBS before and during the Super Bowl. The ad is sponsored and paid for by Focus on the Family. "Women's" and pro-abortion groups are disparaging the Tebow family for telling their story and CBS for airing a "controversial" ad during a national sporting event. These same groups who claim to be pro-"choice" apparently think the only acceptable choice is abortion. Why are they so afraid that a high-profile woman chose life? What do they think is going to happen - more women will choose life for their children by hearing the Tebows' story?

Wilmington "Bubble Zone" Ordinance Vetoed

On Thursday night, Mayor Baker of Wilmington vetoed the "Bubble Zone" ordinace that had been passed by the Wilmington City Council, by a vote of 8-3. This ordinance is the same language as Senate Bill 169 that we have been fighting at the state level. However, prior to the vote, the city council amended the langauge, exempting unions from having to follow the 8-foot rule. The mayor realized this was a discriminatory bill and vetoed it. He did, however, urge the city council to pass the bill in its original form. You can see the press release with Mayor Baker's comments here.

Though the veto is good news, clearly the mayor approves of the original ordinance, therefore we need to keep an eye on its progression. We hope that the city council will realize this is an assault on our freedom of speech and that women (and men) who walk into abortion clinics desperately need the information that our sidewalk counselors offer them.

Temporarily thwarted in the state legislature, Planned Parenthood is now trying to get an anti-sidewalk counseling bill passed in the City of Wilmington. The bill, #3298, passed out of committee yesterday.

The vote is expected to be held in City Council Chambers next Thursday night, January 21st, on the eve of the March for Life in Washington, DC.

Unions are joining us in opposition to this bill. They agree that this is an enforcement issue, that any problems arising from this exercise of free speech rights can be appropriately handled by law enforcement. {UPDATE: The latest news is that the city has added an exemption for unions in this bill - further proving that this bill is aimed at pro-life sidewalk counselers at abortion clinics ONLY!}

Post-abortive women have told me that they wished that there had been a caring person outside the abortion clinic when they had their abortions to provide them with the information about alternatives to abortion that the clinic failed to provide.

If they haven't done this, it indicates one of two things:

that they are more interested in stopping peaceful witness and sidewalk counseling than protecting their employees
OR that they are exaggerating their concern.

Tell your the council member that this bill would also prevent unions from handing out materials in front of a hospital or even a drug store.

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 36 OF THE WILMINGTON CITY CODE RELATING TO OBSTRUCTION OF INGRESS AND EGRESS TO HEALTH CARE FACILITIES.

WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that access to health care facilities for the purpose of obtaining medical counseling and treatment is imperative for the citizens of this city; and
WHEREAS, that the exercise of a person=s right to protest or counsel against certain medical procedures must be balanced against another person=s right to obtain medical counseling and treatment in an unobstructed manner; and
WHEREAS, that preventing the willful obstruction of a person=s access to medical counseling and treatment at a health care facility is a matter of citywide concern; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it necessary and proper for the purpose of public safety to enact legislation that prohibits a person from knowingly obstructing another person=s entry to or exit from a health care facility, while ensuring that the First Amendment rights of individuals to communicate their message to their intended audience is not impaired.

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WILMINGTON HEREBY ORDAINS:

SECTION 1. Chapter 36 of the City Code is hereby amended by adding section 36-70 and adding the underlined language:.
Sec. 36-70 Obstructing Ingress to or Egress from a Health Care Facility.
a) A person is guilty of obstructing ingress to or egress from a health care facility when the person:
1) knowingly obstructs, detains, hinders, impedes or blocks another person=s entry to or exit from a health care facility; or
2) knowingly approaches another person, within eight feet of the person, unless such person consents, for the purpose of protest, education or counseling of such other person in the public right of way or area within a radius of one hundred feet from any entrance and exit door(s) of the health care facility.
b) For purposes of this section, a Ahealth care facility@ means any entity that is licensed, certified or otherwise authorized or permitted by law to administer medical treatment in the State of Delaware.
c) Obstructing ingress to or egress from a health care facility is a misdemeanor.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall become effective as of its date of passage by City Council and the Mayor.

SYNOPSIS: This ordinance amends Chapter 36 of the City Code by adding section 36-70, entitled Obstructing Ingress to or Egress from a Health Care Facility. This ordinance will make obstructing ingress to or egress from a health care facility, as defined by the ordinance, a misdemeanor.

Additional information on SB 169, which is very similar to the city bill. The hearing mentioned below was postponed.

This Wednesday, January 13th, at 1:00 PM, in Delaware's General Assembly, the House Judiciary Committee will hold hearings on Senate Bill 169, which makes sidewalk counseling in front of abortion clinics illegal in Delaware.

SB 169 is aimed specifically at people of faith who prayerfully witness in front of abortion clinics and offer help to women in crisis pregnancies. It was written by the Delaware Attorney General's office at the request of Planned Parenthood of Delaware.

The bill makes it illegal to come within 8 feet of a woman in a crisis pregnancy for the purpose of "education or counseling" as she enters the clinic. Under SB 169, even a minister handing out a brochure about alternatives to abortion would be breaking the law.

Many women and children are helped by sidewalk counselors every year. We must demand that our legislators preserve our right to help women in desperate need.

When the Senate passed the bill last June, sponsors bypassed the requirement for public comment and held no committee hearing on the bill. Sponsors tried to do the same thing in the House, but your phone calls stopped it last summer.

Your phone calls can work again. Please call the House office as soon as possible and ask your legislator to vote NO on SB 169.

Many women are helped at the abortion clinic door by the people who pray and counsel there. Please call the House as soon as possible in the next two days to keep that resource available for women in crisis pregnancies.

Even if you have never prayed or counseled at an abortion clinic, and most of us have not, we must act now to protect the rights of people of faith who do.

During this moment in history when human beings, trapped under concrete slabs are calling out to be rescued; a day in which people who have miraculously survived the Haiti earthquake do not have enough water to continue living; during a time when the UN and US are sending thousands of security personnelfor fear of riots and a “deteriorating security situation,” International Planned Parenthood, the world’s largest abortion provider, is opportunistically responding to this humanitarian crisis by collecting donations for “Sexual & Reproductive Health Services” for the people of Haiti.

Note the following immediate health needs in Haiti, according to the World Health Organization (WHO): search and rescue of survivors trapped underneath rubble; treatment of people with major trauma injuries; preventing the infection of wounds; provision of clean water and sanitation. Somehow “abortion services” did not make the list. Planned Parenthood will objectify and manipulate any person or situation to advance their agenda.

As Haiti begins to recover and grieve one of the most deadly catastrophes ever (possibly 200,000 lives lost), and as the United States approaches the anniversary of Roe v. Wade on January 22 — a moment when 50,000,000 aborted children will be remembered — let us be clear that abortion is not health care. Not here in the United States, and not overseas.

Planned Parenthood Director Who Quit Now Rejected by Episcopalian Church

Bryan, TX (LifeNews.com) -- The religious denominations that embrace abortion do so supposedly because they are tolerant and welcoming of people who disagree on issues like abortion. Yet, that is not proving to be the case for Abby Johnson, the former Planned parenthood director who quit after converting to the pro-life perspective.

Johnson, quit her position last month as the director of a local abortion business after seeing an ultrasound of an abortion procedure.

Her October decision has drawn national attention, exposed how Planned Parenthood does abortions for significant profit, and saw the abortion business fail to silence her now that she has resigned.

Johnson now faces a battle of a different kind -- getting her local Episcolalian Church to accept her new status as a pro-life person.

"Now that I have taken this stand, some of the people there are not accepting of that," she told The Washington Times today.

"People have told me they disagree with my choice. One of the things I've been told is that as Episcopalians, we embrace our differences and disagreements. While I agree with that, I am not sure I can go to a place where I don't feel I am welcome," she said.

The rector at St. Francis would not talk about Johnson's situation with the newspaper.

"I do not intend to be dismissive," the Rev. John Williams wrote the Times in an email, "but my pastoral responsibilities to this faith community preclude making public comments."

"I am sure you understand how important it is for me to foster healthy communication around this emotional issue - that is only possible, as I said, in the context of my pastoral ministry to all," he said.

The Times indicates having problems finding a church home is nothing new -- with pro-life denominations rejecting her before her conversion.

"I was raised Southern Baptist but didn't find the Southern Baptist community was very accepting of my work at Planned Parenthood," she said.

She said she and her husband Doug "had been told by a couple of churches ... that because I worked at Planned Parenthood, we could not be members."

"I thought that because this church was so accepting, maybe I was doing the right thing," she said of joining the Episcopal Church. "A lot of people would consider the Anglican faith a pro-choice faith."

She told the Times that another employee who went to the church with her was told by Planned Parenthood officials not to associated with her and so she stopped attending. The abortion business claimed in comments to the Times that that isn't true.

Johnson is not sure on what to do about her church membership.

"We really, really love that church," she said. "We don't want to leave."

She talked with the Times about her faith in terms of working at an abortion center.

"It felt there was a spiritual conflict in what I was doing, but you just begin to rationalize it. I didn't want to leave these women without options, so you begin to think you are doing the right thing, although it doesn't feel right," she said of why she ran an abortion center before she saw the light.

The Swedish photographer is eighty-seven years old, and was the first to open up the secret world of the unborn—from conception up to birth—by way of macro-lenses and endoscopes (tiny instruments—including camera lens and case—that measure less than eight-tenths of a millimeter in diameter).
Nilsson's photographic explorations of the unborn child's life in the womb were revealed to the world first in 1965 as the cover-story for the April 30, 1965 edition of LIFE magazine, entitled The Drama of Life before Birth. But his photographs made their chief debut in that same year in a book called, A Child is Born.
The stunning images published in 1965 have now been remastered with the help of the latest photographic technology and A Child is Born has been republished in a fifth and final edition. Nilsson says this final edition of his book is meant for the reader of the 21st century to enjoy, so that they might appreciate the mystery of a human being's beginnings. Nilsson has cut away most of the scientific text of previous versions, and largely lets the photos speak for themselves.
In a question-and-answer session with fellow Swedish photographer Hasse Persson, Nilsson remarked that although he has not photographed God directly through his microscopic cameras, "I've seen what He does."
The photographs taken by Nilsson are credited with benefitting science in myriad ways, including helping pave the way to 4-D ultrasound technology; but they have also been of invaluable assistance to the pro-life movement, helping to make its case for the humanity of the unborn.
"In the case of Lennart Nilsson's photographs, a picture is worth lives, untold numbers of lives, because those pictures humanize the child in utero," said Judie Brown, President of American Life League.
Brown told LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) that Nilsson's work must be placed in the context of the 45 intervening years and the development of ultrasound technologies that image the child in the womb.
"I think we would have been far behind where we are today," without Nilsson's photographs, said Brown, "because he is the inspiration for all the scientists who wanted to do what he had done, but through a realistic way, allowing the mother to see her child living and breathing in her womb."
"If it had not been for him, the whole science of ultrasonography might have been set back as well."

Nilsson himself withholds his opinion on abortion, saying that individuals must come to their own opinion. But service to truth also means service to life, and for that, Euteneuer told LSN, the pro-life movement is grateful for the contributions made by scientists and photographers like Nilsson…

October is National Respect Life Month!

Delaware Right to Life celebrates October with several upcoming events.

First, October 4th is Respect Life Sunday. DRTL will sponsor life chains in each county. Life Chains are a national peaceful and prayerful witness of pro-life Americans standing for one or two hours praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity that abortion kills children. DRTL will provide the signs. Please always be respectful and courteous of passers-by.

In New Castle, the event will take place along Concord Pike (Rte. 202) at AstraZeneca, across from the Fairfax Shopping Center from 12-1 p.m. In Kent, people will gather in front of Planned Parenthood on Governor’s Ave. from 12-2 p.m. Sussex will hold two life chains - one along Route 1 and South 9th St. in South Bethany from 2-4 p.m., and another along Route 1 in front of St. Jude's church in Lewes from 2-4 p.m. Last year we had record numbers – let’s break records again and show Delaware we’re pro-life! (United Kingdom)â€”A young British mother has criticized medical guidelines that, she said, resulted in doctors refusing treatment and leaving her newborn premature son to die. 23 year-old Sarah Capewell told media that her son Jayden, born at 21 weeks and five days gestation, was refused intensive care because he was two days under the limit set by the British government's National Health Service (NHS) rationing guidelines.
Capewell said that her son Jayden cried and lived for two hours before dying in her arms. During that time, his mother took photos of him and pleaded with doctors that he be admitted to the special baby unit at James Paget University Hospital (JPH). Staff at the hospital, in Gorleston, Norfolk, told her that had Jayden been born two days later they would have helped him.
Since her son's death, Capewell has launched an internet campaign to change the guidelines and says that she has received messages of support from around the world.
Health care rationing guidelines set down by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics in 2006 say that intensive care should never be given to babies below 22 weeks gestation, and rarely to those below 23 weeks. In secular bioethics, this is called Futile Care Theory, which holds that in cases where there is no hope for improvement of an incapacitating condition, such as extreme prematurity, no treatment should be offered.
In the case of Sarah Capewell' son, the Nuffeld Council guidance that staff reportedly cited was backed up by advice published by the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) last year. The BAPM paper itself, however, does not mandate the refusal of treatment, saying only, "This is not a set of instructions, but a framework to highlight the range of evidence and opinion that needs to be considered by staff and parents."
"The care of the mother, her fetus and the baby, will always need to be individualized and should be led by senior staff in all disciplines. The parents' hopes and expectations need to be explored with honesty and compassion in a realistic way, drawing upon the available evidence."
The BAPM paper says that in cases where children are born before 23 weeks gestation, "it would be considered in the best interests of the baby, and standard practice, for resuscitation not to be carried out." It continues, however, "If the parents wish they should have the opportunity to discuss outcomes with a second senior member of the Perinatal team."
But Capewell reports that her wishes were ignored by hospital staff. "When I asked about my baby's human rights," she said, "the attitude of the doctors seemed to be that he did not have any. They said before 22 weeks he was just a fetus."
Under British criminal law, an unborn child can be killed by abortion up to 24 weeks gestation without any cause being stated and up to the time of full gestation if he is suspected of suffering from some disability.
The British national health care rationing body, the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (N.I.C.E.), has plainly stated that such guidelines are based on financial motives, in consideration of how expensive a treatment will be compared to the "quality of life years" it can provide. This is an expression of a new utilitarian trend in the philosophy of medical care that has replaced classical medical ethics in recent decades.
In traditional medical ethics, the governing principle, according to the ancient Hippocratic Oath, is to "do no harm" to the patient. In modern utilitarian bioethics, the guiding principle is to produce "the greatest good for the greatest number," whether that good benefits the patient or not.
Under this principle, which has swept the medical world in most western countries that have adopted government socialized medical care; it is increasingly common for medical guidelines to allow doctors to decide, against a patient's wishes or those of his family, that further medical treatment is "futile" and can be discontinued. In countries such as Britain and Canada, where the provision of food and water are considered "medical treatment," this can mean that a patient can be legally dehydrated to death, often while being placed in permanent sedation.

This morning I worked the early shift at the pro-life booth at the Delaware State Fair. I met two different, unrelated women who both confessed to me that they had had an abortion in their teens. This is my 4th year working the fair and I've NEVER had a conversation like these before.

The first woman was mid-50's or early 60's. She confessed to me and immediately welled up with tears. She had to wipe them away. She explained that she never healed from her abortion and certainly never dealt with the emotional effects. She was 17 at the time and didn't think she could handle a baby. She clearly regretted the decision and was desperately calling for help. I gave her our Rachel's Vineyard brochure and our DRTL referral brochure. She also said she has grandbabies and then explained that she talked her daughter out of having an abortion. My heart broke for her. Anyone who says there are no emotional consequences to abortions have certainly never spoken with anyone who regrets having one.

The next lady said she was in her mid-50's and had an abortion at 16 because she "fell for the lies." "It was the 70's", her parents were embarrassed, the usual. She wasn't quite as upset while talking to me as the first woman because she said at age 42 she finally made the decision to start the healing process. She sought help and mercy. She now speaks to her church about abortion and its effects. She's still working through it and it's still difficult because her husband has a hard time with her talking about it in public. She said even now, 13 years after she began the healing process, she's nowhere near getting through it.

Please pray for these women. I consider myself blessed to have met them.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A bill that is moving through Congress would allow the nation's Attorney General to classify pro-life Americans as terrorists. Rep. Alcee Hastings, a pro-abortion congressman, has introduced a bill that calls for the Attorney General to have discretion over who is called a terrorist and what groups will be treated as terrorist groups. Congressman Trent Franks, a pro-life Republican from Arizona, talked about the bill: "While the amendment seeks to keep gang members and members of violent groups out of the military, the amendment by its language is much more broad. Specifically, it confers upon the Attorney General the ability to categorize groups as hate groups, and this sounds an alarm for many of us because of the recent shocking and offensive report released by the Department of Homeland Security which labeled, arguably, a majority of Americans as 'extremists.'" Franks continued, "I take extreme offense that the federal government -- through a report issued under the authority of a Cabinet-level official -- would dare to categorize people who are 'dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition or abortion,' as 'right-wing extremists' and it begs the question of whether the Attorney General, under Mr. Hastings' Amendment, can look to the Napolitano report to decide who is an extremist, or can make the same categorization of the majority of Americans as extremists who may then be kept from joining the military, or who may be discharged."
